TORONTO, ON – September 25, 2024 – Last night, during the SOCAN Awards Gala in Toronto, The Unison Fund, SOCAN, and Revelios have announced a landmark collaboration to address mental health challenges within the Canadian music industry. This initiative aims to foster a healthier and more supportive environment for all industry members.
ADDRESSING A SILENT STRUGGLE
The Canadian music industry is celebrated for its cultural impact and talented artists. However, behind the scenes, many professionals face significant mental health challenges. The pressures of fame, performance expectations, precarious work, and industry dynamics contribute to a silent struggle, often overshadowed by the industry’s glamour.
STUDY OBJECTIVES
Led by Catherine Harrison, president of Revelios, the study aims to:
- Raise awareness of mental health issues among Canadian musicians and industry workers.
- Gather comprehensive data reflecting the modern industry’s demographic and experiential aspects.
ANTICIPATED IMPACT
The findings are expected to:
- Improve mental health literacy and promote healthy behaviors within the industry.
- Enhance the social responsibility and reputation of participating organizations.
- Catalyze a cultural shift towards destigmatizing mental health issues.
- Yield economic benefits from a more resilient and thriving workforce.
CALL TO ACTION
The study invites all Canadian music industry professionals to participate in the confidential and anonymous survey. The success of this initiative relies on the collective effort of musicians, crew, producers, and all those involved in the industry to drive future funding, programming, and positive community impact.
