Music Licensing for Online Concerts

Are you planning an online music concert or virtual event?

Live music events offer music fans a space to enjoy unique, real-time musical performances – concert experiences made possible by the songwriters and composers who create the music these talented musicians perform. Many venues, events, and promoters across Canada and worldwide are adapting the live music experience for online audiences.

Here’s how to license the livestreaming of your music event or concert

If you’re organizing a virtual music experience and/or planning to livestream an event on social media and other online platforms, you’ll likely need to obtain a music license.

To get licensed, send an email to onlineconcert@socan.com.

Please indicate:

  • “Online Concert” in the subject line
  • Details about the concert and the platform used to livestream your concert, event, or festival.

SOCAN’s online concert team will then advise of the appropriate license and fee.

Hosting both an in-person and online music event?

If you plan to host both in-person attendees and virtual attendees at your event, you’ll likely require music licenses for both uses. But don’t worry, we’ve streamlined this process for you. Simply connect with us at onlineconcert@socan.com and we’ll make sure you have the licenses you need for a successful show!

Your music license lets your artists and fans know that you are an integral part of the music ecosystem, while supporting the music creators whose music is heard and loved at your events.
