Director Legal Services and Associate General Counsel

Anne graduated from the University of Windsor's Faculty of Law in 1994 and was admitted to the Ontario Bar (Law Society of Upper Canada) in 1996. Following her call to the bar, Anne was in private practice until 1998 where her practice focused exclusively on intellectual property litigation. In 1998, she joined SOCAN’s Legal Department. In 2000, Anne became the manager of the Legal department and was ultimately appointed Director of Legal Services in 2005 and assumed responsibility for all legal activities undertaken by that department. In 2009, Anne was appointed Associate General Counsel of SOCAN.

As the Director of SOCAN’s Legal Department, Anne’s law practice includes extensive involvement in proceedings before the Copyright Board of Canada. This includes current proceedings on copyright liability of Internet access and service providers for music performing rights (a matter which has since been heard by the Supreme Court of Canada). Her practice also includes enforcing SOCAN’s rights before the Federal Courts of Canada and the Superior Courts of Ontario and negotiating licensing and other agreements on behalf of SOCAN.

As Associate General Counsel, Anne has advised her client on a broad range of legal issues including copyright, corporate-commercial, privacy, competition, contract and other laws. Fully bilingual, Anne has been practicing copyright law since her call to the Ontario Bar in 1996.
