Salomé Leclerc

Song – "Ne reviens pas"
- Now playing...

At 25, singer-songwriter Salomé Leclerc has come a long way since her much-noticed debut in the Secondaire en spectacle student competition, her showing in the 2006 Cégeps en spectacle contest, and her performances as a finalist in the 2009 Granby International Song Festival and Ma première Place des Arts.

What stands out on her first album release, Sous les arbres, is the eerie quality of her husky, fragile voice as it meanders through the lyrics of her twilight songs, most of which were written two or three years ago and honed to perfection through stage and studio performances.

The album was produced last March in Paris, France, with French artist Emily Loizeau producing – for the first time. It was recorded in the Acousti Studios with the help of Loizeau’s musicians, and later mixed by hotel2tango’s Howard Bilerman in Montreal.

A graduate of Granby’s École nationale de la chanson, Leclerc’s highly evocative lyrics shine through in songs that deal variously with tumultuous love affairs (“Nos jours”), stormy break-ups (“Ne reviens pas”) and consuming passions (“Garde-moi collée”), leading the listener through a dream-like folk-rock world where seemingly impassable roads ultimately lead to a place of solace.

Besides her Spring 2012 tour, Leclerc is planning to explore a number of co-writing opportunities in Europe.
