Romi Mayes

Singer-songwriter, guitarist

Song – "Don't Mess With Me" - Now playing...

Romi Mayes' latest and fifth full-length recording, Lucky Tonight, is a duo project with fellow guitarist Jay Nowicki of well-known blues band The Perpetrators. Together, they recorded an album comprised entirely of unreleased, unrecorded, brand-new songs, captured live in one take, at a sold-out concert in her hometown of Winnipeg, in the middle of winter.

Mayes has been nominated for Juno Awards, Canadian Folk Music Awards, and is a four-time winner at the Western Canadian Music Awards, including Songwriter and Album of The Year in 2007. Her recordings have charted on radio stations worldwide, and landed on many “Best Of" year-end lists.

Encouraged from a young age, Mayes has been onstage since she was 15. Now, at age 36, she’s shared the stage with the likes of Ricky Skaggs, Corb Lund, Jim Cuddy, Fred Eaglesmith, Sue Foley, Blackie and The Rodeo Kings, Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Butch Hancock, Gurf Morlix, Martha Wainwright and many more. One of the hardest-working independent musicians in Canada, Mayes has toured throughout North America and Europe to festivals, theatres, dancehalls, bars, pubs, cafes, and living rooms.

With her unique brand of bourbon-infused country blues, Mayes’ vocals can break hearts, her guitar playing can break strings, and her honest, edgy songwriting is putting her on the roots-music map as a force to be reckoned with. As Lucky Tonight continues to attract international media attention and her fan base rapidly increases, Mayes has begun to focus her near-constant touring schedule south of the border and overseas in places like Sweden, Italy, and the U.K.
