Nico Lelièvre

Singer-songwriter, producer

Song – "Foultitude" - Now playing...

Besides his work as a producer (Steve Marin, Junë, Alexandre Belliard, Luc Guimond and others), Nico Lelièvre has been treating us for more than 10 years to his own gems as a singer-songwriter.

In the late 1990s, Montreal nightlife lovers could catch Lelièvre et les Albinos at the Lion d'Or, the Club Soda or the Jailhouse Rock Café. In 1998, things began to come together for Lelièvre. After writing the song “Créer peut rendre libre!” for the Oxy-Jeunes organization, he qualified for the Granby International Song Festival, where he reached the finals in the singer-songwriter category, thanks to a series of stunning performances.

In 2000, along with Sébastien Bouchard, Lelièvre started Popmécanic, a duo that produced the successful song “Déformé (Allez, allez)” from their Hypocondriaque album. Nico followed that experience with another stint as a solo artist under the name of The Eight that produced three electro albums. Leaving this experiment behind, the curious musician went back to his good old guitar and hooked up with a new team with whom he developed P'tit gamin, released by GSI Musique in 2005. This Neil O'Connor-produced opus was warmly received, with one song, “Le pétrin,” being made into a music video by Max Perrier. Lelièvre’s solid next album, Parallèle, was released to critical acclaim.

Lelièvre’s most recent offering, Foultitude, is a deeply emotional collection of catchy pop tunes and rock songs with strong grooves and scathing licks. With lyrics that express the joys and pains of everyday life, this album takes the listener on a musical ride through Lelièvre’s current emotional landscape of nuances, silences and feelings. Backed with a colossal rhythm section, it is an up-to-date reflection of its creator’s fragility, authenticity and need to love and be loved.
