Jenn Grant

Song – "Getcha Good" - Now playing...

Born on Prince Edward Island, Jenn Grant moved to Halifax at age ten. She graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting.

In her early twenties, Grant played some shows with noted orchastral pop band The Heavy Blinkers. She released an independent EP, Jenn Grant and Goodbye Twentieth Century, in 2005. The following year, on her debut album Orchestra for the Moon, she recorded at CBC Radio studios in Halifax, and collaborated with such artists as Ron Sexsmith, Matt Mays and Jill Barber. She toured Germany and Canada in support of the album, including a stint as an opening act for The Weakerthans. Her second album, Echoes, was recorded on a farm in rural Ontario and released in 2009. In 2010, Grant collaborated with Buck 65 on several tracks, including "Paper Airplane", "Cold Steel Drum" and a cover of Leonard Cohen's "Who By Fire", for his 20 Odd Years series of EPs.

Her third and new album, Honeymoon Punch, marks a sea change in Grant's song style. Whereas her earlier work – and especially the songs on Echoes – had tended toward pensive lyrics, leisurely paces and a sense of melancholy, Honeymoon Punch fairly bursts with the passionate enthusiasm of a new romance. The recording has been called "a frisky concoction of spirited, synth-sweetened songs" and "an album that explores the ups and ups (sic) of happiness." Exchanging misery for ecstasy in matters personal and musical, Honeymoon Punch drives the dark clouds away, never more so than on its first single, "Getcha Good."
