Jury member Alain Chartrand and guest instructor Daniel Lavoie presented the SOCAN Best Song Award to singer-songwriter Myëlle on July 1, 2010, as part of the 28th annual Festival en chanson de Petite-Vallée, held June 25 to July 3 in Quebec’s Gaspé region. Myëlle, who was honoured for her song “J’ai trop parlé” ("I've Said Too Much"), also received four additional career development prizes.
Once again this year, festival contestants had numerous opportunities to attend training workshops, perform in a professional environment and meet such renowned artists as Cajun singer-songwriter Zachary Richard, who was the 2010 event’s “ferryman” and let the good times roll at a special concert presented on July 2. In all, more than 70 artists attended the 2010 competition, including well-known SOCAN members Florent Vollant, Luc De Larochellière, Michel Faubert, Gaële, Samian, Bernard Adamus, Pépé, Juan Sebastian Larobina, Guy Bélanger and Pascal Lejeune.
SOCAN was represented at the event by the Quebec region’s Membership Department Manager Joanne Pouliot, who – along with singer-songwriter Mario Chenart (SODRAC and SPACQ) – hosted a SOCAN 101 workshop on July 3 for participating songwriters, authors, composers and "Rencontres qui chantent" participants. She also chaired the selection jury for the Best Song and “Most Beautiful Tune” awards.
