Gilles Vigneault receives Quebec City Summer Festival award

Quebec’s iconic poet and singer-songwriter Gilles Vigneault, who's celebrating 50 years in show business this year, was presented with the Quebec City Summer Festival Renommée Miroir Award on July 14, 2010. “They’re giving me a ‘Miroir’ award so I can take a look at myself,” the internationally-renowned artist joked. The Summer Festival board chair Marie-France Poulin stressed Vigneault’s influence throughout the French-speaking world, his part in his fellow Quebecers’ cultural emancipation, and his celebration of their close ties with nature.

On the evening of the same day, Vigneault gave an outstanding performance as part of a gigantic outdoor concert attended by tens of thousands of people on Quebec City’s Plains of Abraham.

The Renommée Miroir Award was created in 2009 as a lifetime achievement honour for an artist in the Quebec City Summer Festival’s lineup. Last year’s winner was the French band Indochine. For complete details, visit the Festival site.
