SOCAN reserves the right to review, edit, refuse or delete any response.

Here's how to ensure your response gets published:

• Stick to the specific question under consideration.
• Don’t copy material from other sources.
• Avoid personal attacks.
• Don’t write responses that are threatening, invasive of property, defamatory, obscene, profane, contain hate speech, degrade others or are otherwise objectionable.
• Don’t repeat a response that you or another person have already posted.

If you see a comment that appears to violate these guidelines, please e-mail our moderators at moderator@socan.ca and one of them will review it. The comment will only be removed if it violates our Guidelines for Responses.

Your Screen Name will appear with any comments you post. You are welcome to use your real name as your Screen Name, but it’s best to avoid using personal information such as your address or phone number. SOCAN reserves the right to reject any Screen Name that we consider to be offensive or potentially misleading.

Our moderators review all comments before they are published. This will result in a delay in seeing your comment posted. Although we try to keep this delay as short as possible, at busy times it may take up to three hours for your comment to be considered by our moderators. In addition, moderators are only on duty Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., so comments submitted outside of these hours, or on holidays, will not be posted until the next business day.

Please allow up to three hours for your response to appear. If it has not appeared after that time, then our moderators have probably concluded that it does not comply with our Guidelines for Responses.

Always avoid:

• Lengthy excerpts from other posts.
• Racist, sexist and offensive language.
• Personal attacks.
• Defamatory or libellous statements.
• Profanity.
• Harassment.
• Hate speech.
• Infringing someone else’s intellectual property or proprietary rights (including copying and pasting excerpts from other sources without permission and attribution).
• Violating someone’s privacy.
• Threats or suggesting committing a criminal act.
• Insensitive comments regarding the death or injury of private individuals.
• Posting your message in all CAPS (this makes it difficult to read and is considered “yelling”).
• Posting press releases and commercial promotions.
• Political campaigning or lobbying.

Responses that criticize SOCAN's policies and procedures are welcome, but general questions or complaints are best directed to members@socan.ca. Personal attacks against SOCAN employees (or anyone else) will not be posted.
