MEMBER BENEFITS

Get Paid!

Here’s what you need to know:
When you are a SOCAN member, you are paid royalties when your songs are performed live in concert. Anything from a large outdoor music festival to a small club/bar performance can be considered a live performance that may be eligible for a concert distribution. Concert royalties are often the first earnings that new members receive from SOCAN.

Here’s what we need from you:
In order to receive concert royalties, members are required to submit a Notification of Live Music Performance (NLMP) form that provides details about their performance. Along with your NLMP, your set list and proof of the performance, such as a ticket stub, newspaper clipping, program book, contract or letter/email from the presenter, is required in order to receive royalties for the performance – something to prove that the performance took place. You have up to one year from the date of performance to submit your notification information to SOCAN.

When will you get paid?:
Generally, you can expect your royalty payment to arrive approximately nine months after your live performance. However, this is pending SOCAN’s receipt of your NLMP and supporting information and the payment of the licence from the presenter.

If you have any questions regarding how SOCAN pays for concerts, contact the SOCAN Information Centre at 1-866-307-6226, or send us an email at members@socan.ca
