Playing online concerts?

Get paid with SOCAN Encore for your Facebook Live and Instagram Live performances. The SOCAN Encore program pays royalties to SOCAN songwriter, composer and publisher members for the use of their songs during live online performances.

This means that SOCAN members stand to benefit most when they perform original songs during their online performances since royalties are paid to the music creators, who often are not the performers.

**Note - Beginning December 1, 2020, the criteria has been modified to allow SOCAN members to more easily take advantage of the program. Based on your feedback, we came to realize that the proof requirement of a screen capture of 100 simultaneous LIVE audience members during the performance was difficult, particularly in the middle of a performance.

The new proof requirement is a minimum of 1,000 total views within 90 days of the performance, AND/OR 100 simultaneous LIVE audience viewers.

This new approach is far easier for Members to capture and should result in more payments being made.

Here’s how:

  • Sign into your SOCAN account.
  • Select SOCAN Forms
  • Select Notification of Live Music Performance the same way you would for in-person concerts.
  • Select Performance in Canada. Guide to filling out concert information
  • Select Popular Music Concert
  • Select Headline with no support if performing solo.
  • Select Ticket Stub
  • You must now provide two items to satisfy proof of performance Guide to providing Proof of Performance:
*place both items in one document as you are only able to upload one document in the  system.

1) A screenshot of the event announcement.
2) A screenshot of your online performance showing PROOF of audience views, the original performance date, and your member name or social media handle. The performance must be submitted within 90 days of the original performance date and display at least 100 simultaneous LIVE audience viewers, AND/OR 1,000 total views.
